About Northern Ohio Golf Charities

Northern Ohio Golf Charities began its life as Akron Golf Charities. This organization was started by a group of golf enthusiasts as a way to give local golf fans a behind the scenes look at the PGA TOUR event at Firestone Country Club while also helping other important organizations in their own community. The money and time donated by our voluteers has provided the funding for over 19 million dollars of grants to organizations throughout Northeast Ohio.

Now in its sixth decade, Northern Ohio Golf Charities continues its mission with the World of Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational. Every year, over 1,000 long-time participants and new volunteers of all ages come together for a week of fun, friendship, and excitement right in the heart of the action. Working in many capacities, donating their time and talent to help run the golf tournament, our volunteers take a great deal of pride in hosting this world-class event. They have also found that the tournament is a unique family activity, as well as a great way to make new friends with similar interests.

In return for the work of our volunteers, all ticket and hospitality sales revenue comes back from the PGA TOUR to fund our Foundation grants.

About Northern Ohio Golf Charities Foundation

Northern Ohio Golf Foundation is an associated organization that distributes grants from the funds collected by the Northern Ohio Golf Charities. Each year these grants total near $1 million.

Among the many recipients are Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron, Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, American Red Cross, Beacon Journal Charity Fund, Regional Food Banks of both Akron-Canton and Cleveland, the Metroparks Serving Summit County and University Hospital of Cleveland.
