2017 Bridgestone Invitational - Volunteer Committee Responsibilities

Sandy Becker-Neidert - 2017 Tournament Volunteer Chairman
Bob Zwisler - 2018 Tournament Volunteer Chairman
Kevin Harris - Executive Vice Chairman
Concessions – Coordinates the activities of the volunteer organizations that work the various concessions stands. Scheduled Tuesday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts. COMMITTEE FILLED
Gates – Greets our guests, checks credentials and offers information at the various gates. Scheduled Tuesday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts.
Finance – Sells tickets at the gates and Will Call and works closely with Gates committee. Scheduled Monday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts.
Information – Committee members distribute and sell course information guides and assist guests with their questions and needs. Scheduled Tuesday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts.
Will Call – Distributes tickets left by players, VIP guests, corporate purchases and pre-sale. Scheduled Monday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts. COMMITTEE FILLED
50/50 Raffle – Sells raffle tickets to the public inside the tournament. Scheduled Wednesday to Sunday 4-6 hour shifts. Shift times may vary.
J. C. Fischer - Executive Vice Chairman
Carts – Distributes and collects the event golf carts each day. Weekend prior to play, chairpersons organize and label carts. Scheduled Wednesday to Sunday 4-6 hour shifts.
Course Refreshments – Responsible for stocking the South Course tee boxes and volunteer refreshments areas. Setup assistance needed Sat/Sun prior to event for 3-4 hours. Scheduled Tuesday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts. COMMITTEE FILLED
General Construction – Responsible for pre-tournament construction projects on course and with tournament facilities. Responsible for South Course meshing projects as well as barricading of on/off course locations as determined by PGA/GGM leaders. Hours are flexible prior to tournament week and largely weekends. During week of tournament, scheduled Thursday through Sunday 6-10 hour shifts. Sunday after completion of play till dark, if necessary.
Off-Course Construction – Roping of parking lots weekend prior to tournament. Scheduled on set-up weekend 6-8 hour shifts. During week, 2-4 hour shifts needed to maintain parking lots. Sunday after completion of play till dark, if necessary.
Parking – Coordinates the groups that park cars, as well as greets the guests, answers information and works with the transportation for each lot. Scheduled Tuesday through Sunday, also positions available before the tournament to set up the lots Friday through Tuesday. Shift times vary.
Radios – Distribute, manage and collect radios Wednesday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts. Shifts start early each day to support other committee staffing. Monday post tournament assistance is needed – 4 hours. COMMITTEE FILLED
Roping/Staking – In partnership with Global Golf Management, rope and stake the course prior to the tournament. Responsible for all rope and stake removal following the tournament by end of day Sunday. Sunday after completion of play till dark, if necessary.
Signage – Places and removes directional road signage on and off the course. Scheduled the week before the tournament through Tuesday, allowing for other committee involvement. Shift times vary.
Uniforms – Distributes volunteer credentials and uniforms prior to event. Sells merchandise and additional uniform items during tournament week, works closely with tournament office on all merchandise to volunteers. Scheduled Wednesday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts.
Volunteer Compound – Responsible for volunteer hospitality in the volunteer compound, which includes serving food and beverages. Scheduled Wednesday through Sunday. Coverage is needed 6:30am till 2:30pm. COMMITTEE FILLED
Bambi Miller – Executive Vice Chairman
Caddies – Registers caddies at the beginning of the week and then distributes and collects caddie bibs each day of the tournament. Scheduled Monday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts. COMMITTEE FILLED
Junior Volunteers (Adult) – Coordinates the activities of approximately 150 junior volunteers. Scheduled Thursday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts.
SHOTLink Laser Operator - Committee members work on the tees, fairways and greens recording shot locations. May be called on to work as a walking scorer. Mandatory training session the Saturday before tournament and practice round Wednesday. Scheduled Thursday through Sunday 8-10 hour shifts. COMMITTEE FILLED
SHOTLink Walking Scorer – One walking scorer will be assigned to follow each group of players and record scores on a hand-held electronic device. May be called on to work as a laser operator. Mandatory training session the Saturday before tournament and practice round Wednesday. Scheduled Thursday through Sunday 4-6 hour shifts. The SHOTLink Walking Scorers Committee will only be open to those that have been assigned to the committee the last two years. If past committee members are unable to volunteer, we will take new committee members on an as needed first come, first served basis.
Jeff Wallick – Executive Vice Chairman
Emergency Action – Cars are stationed around the course for emergency evacuation. Volunteers drive these cars and assist transporting the players and caddies from the course to safety. Saturday and Sunday prior to tournament, Wednesday to the Monday after the tournament in 8 hour shifts.
Marshals – Assigned to various holes, positions and areas of the golf course, including walkways, clubhouse and driving range. They will assist with maintaining gallery control and easing the flow of movement for players, caddies, officials and media. Limited number needed on Wednesday, 300 needed daily in 8-10 hour shifts Thursday through Sunday.
Shuttle Transportation/Handicap Needs Shuttle – Responsible for transporting special needs patrons to designated viewing areas. Wednesday through Sunday 10 needed daily in 8 hour shifts.
VIP Transportation – Transports players, officials and VIPs to and from the golf course, airport and hotels. Drivers are also needed before and after the event to collect and return cars to the rental company. Transportation drivers must be at least 25 years old. Wednesday through Sunday 10 needed daily in 8 hour shifts. COMMITTEE FILLED
Mobile Device – This duty requires stamina and ability to walk and be on your feet all day with personal attributes of common sense, good temperament, outgoing, friendly, assertive but polite; courteous and willing to interact with spectators while informing them of the Mobile Device Policies, pointing out locations where phones may be used or not used on the course. Limited number needed on Wednesday. Thursday through Sunday, 50 needed daily in 6 hour shifts.
George Van Horne – Executive Vice Chairman
Credentials – Responsible for checking credentials at all hospitality areas, including Clubhouse, villas and skyboxes. Scheduled from Wednesday through Sunday 5-6 hour shifts
Golf Events – Handles all of the details of The First Tee Tournament held on Tuesday, June 28. COMMITTEE CLOSED
Ambassador of Golf Event – Assist with event on the evening of Wednesday, August 2.
Recruiting & Development
John Anderson - Executive Vice Chairman
Volunteer Recruiting & Development - Team works year-round to encourage increased volunteer participation in the Bridgestone Invitational. During tournament week, committee members support volunteer training and development activities of other committees, while also serving as ambassadors for the event in varying capacities.
Economic Impact - A survey team working in cooperation with Cleveland State University. Members will use short 15-20 question pen/paper surveys of spectators in the Gates and Concessions areas. Shifts are 10am-2pm and 2pm-6pm Thursday through Sunday. This job will require walking and standing outside. Good people skills recommended.
